Counterterrorism Center under the State Security Service of Georgia detained 4 persons

Counterterrorism Center under the State Security Service of Georgia started an investigation on participation of mercenary into armed conflict or hostilities, article 410, part III of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

According to the operative information obtained during the investigation, several persons supporting the ideology of so called “Islamic State” have been detected. 
On November 18th, 2015, in the scope of the investigation, Tbilisi City Court issued a ruling on search to be conducted at 11 houses. As a result of investigative activities carried out by Counterterrorism Center under the State Security Service of Georgia, on the basis of court ruling, searching activities were held on all mentioned addresses. 

As a result of searching activities carried out at 4 persons’ houses, the officers seized hand grenades, pistols, bullets and cylindrical shape explosive devices as well as cell phones, sim-cards, memory cards, computer devices, internet-modems, notebooks, various literature, information storage electronic devices, CD and DVD disks and ISIS flags. The officers of Counterterrorism Center under the State Security Service of Georgia alongside Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia detained 4 persons: Jambul A, Mirian B, Gia B, and Lasha G. The above mentioned persons were charged under the article 236, part II of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

Investigative activities are in progress and a number of relevant expertise are appointed in order to establish the fact of possible connections of the detainees with “Islamic State” as well as providing assistance for terrorist activities.

Further investigative activities are being carried out in order to reveal other persons who may have any connection with terrorist organization and conduct criminal prosecution against them.
