Extraordinary Meeting under the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism Held after 4-year Interval

At the request of Central Government of Georgia, on May 27th, 2016, extraordinary meeting under Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) was held after 4-year Interval in Gali. Within the framework of the meeting, representatives of Central Government of Georgia discussed the issue of murder of the Georgian citizen Giga Otkhozoria in the village of Khurcha, Zugdidi District, by the so-called “border guards” deployed along the occupation line.

Georgian side demanded the occupation forces and DE facto government to extradite the person accused in murder to Georgia in order to bring him to Georgian justice.
During the meeting, the issue of ensuring smooth operation of the “Hot Line” was also raised which is important in terms of incidents prevention and minimizing its number along the occupation line.

Incident Prevention and Response Mechanisms was founded as a result of agreement reached in the framework of Geneva Discussions in 2009. The mechanism meetings are aimed at incident prevention and their settlement in the adjacent territories to occupation line.
