MIA AND SSSG DETAINED TWO PERSONS FOR EXTORTING BRIBE IN LARGE QUANTITIES

As a result of operative-investigative activities jointly conducted by State Security Service and General Inspection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, head of the Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti Regional Division of the Central Criminal Police Department Giorgi Katcharava and detective of the same division Zurab Tch. were detained for extortion of bribe in large quantities.

Investigation established that on August 16 employee of the Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti Regional Division of the Central Criminal Police Department detained citizen J.J for illegal purchase and keeping of drugs while his accompanying person was summoned at the police for interrogation.

While being at the police building citizen B. U. was met by the head of the Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti Regional Division of the Central Criminal Police Department Giorgi Katcharava who demanded certain amount of cash for providing security and immunity.

In August of the recent year B. U met with Giorgi Katcharava and detective of Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti Regional Division of the Central Criminal Police Department Zurab Tch. whohanded over bribe to Zurab Tch. under the instructions of Katcharava.

Two days later B.U. was met by Giorgi Katcharava and Zurab Tch. again who demanded 30 000 GEL (as a fine to be paid to the state budget) to on behalf of the Prosecutor’s Office for concluding plea-bargain with J.J (detained for illegal purchase and keeping of drugs) agreement and demanded additional cash as a bribe.

On September 14 of the current year Giorgi Katcharava and Zurab Tch. extorted cash previously demanded by them in the process of which both of them were taken under arrest.

Investigation is in progress under the article 338, under the Criminal Code of Georgia, envisaging from 11 to 15 years of imprisonment.
