State Security Service of Georgia Representatives Participated in Regional Security 2nd International Forum

The representatives of the State Security Service of Georgia participated in the Tbilisi Regional Security 2nd International Forum: “Nuclear and Radiological Challenges in Black Sea Region: reasons, results and responsive measures”.

Two-day International Forum was opened by the heads of relevant Agencies and the representatives of donor countries. Head of Information-analytical Department under the State Security Service of Georgia Manana Baghashvili addressed the audience.

This year the forum is aimed at highlighting and discussing the regional threats coming from the territories beyond the state control and their negative impact on international nuclear security.

The Forum is also aimed at defining potential international, regional and national mechanisms, which enables to mitigate nuclear and radiological terrorism threat.

„This issue is very much actual and it effectively requires a strong regional and international cooperation. We have been partnering with Georgia since several years now and I can definitely say, that the role of Georgia’s leadership is the model for the whole region mitigating CBRN risks is very important. Georgia was one of the first countries in the world to start working on their national action plans and its leadership role is being showcased also in important international forums such as UN General Assembly” – UNICRI Representative Francesco Miorini stated.

The Forum is supported by: Government of Sweden - Nuclear Security Agency, The US State Department, Energy and Climate Change Department of the UK and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, from the Georgian side – State Security Service of Georgia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and National Agency for Nuclear and Radiological Security.

The forum will bring together Georgian, as well as foreign experts and officials from the US, Europe and Black Sea region working in the field of nuclear and radiological security. Participating countries are involved in the "Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty," the annual review process, as well as actively participate in the nuclear security summit.

Successful implementation of the Forum will promote dialog between national and international actors and enhance cooperation in the field of Nuclear and Radiological Security.
