Meeting with Deputy Assistant Secretary of the US State Department Simon Limage Held in State Security Service of Georgia

The importance of the US support in countering CBRN threats was discussed at State Security Service of Georgia at the meeting attended by Simon Limage, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Nonproliferation Programs and the representatives of the State Security Service of Georgia. The parties discussed opportunities that Georgia possesses in terms of fight against nuclear smuggling and ensuring border security, as well as the US-Georgian cooperation perspectives.

The meeting was attended by head of Administration under State Security Service of Georgia, head of Analytical-Information Department under the State Security Service of Georgia, deputy Head of Administration under State Security Service of Georgia, head of Special Operations Department, head of Special Tasks department and representatives from the US Embassy.

The representatives of the State Security Service of Georgia provided the US representatives with information on implemented measures in the field of CBRN risk mitigation as a secretariat of Interagency Coordination Council on combating CBRN threats and discussed particular facts against illicit traffic of nuclear and radioactive materials suppression carried out by Georgian side.

“I came here to Georgia to have this meeting among others with your State Security Service which are very strong partners with United States on issues of countering nuclear smuggling. This is a very important meeting and very useful and we talked about the different aspects of our collaboration. Georgia is a very important leader both regionally and internationally on countering the spread of CBRN and dealing with nuclear smuggling so, we are very proud to work with Georgia against this threat” - Deputy Assistant Secretary for Nonproliferation Programs Simon Limage stated.

“In the scope of the meeting the cooperation between State Security Service of Georgia and the US State Department in the fight against CBRN threats was highlighted. Mr Simon Limage stressed the successful activities carried out by Georgia and State Security Service of Georgia in particular in the above-mentioned field. Information-Analytical Department as the Secretariat of Interagency Coordination Council on combating CBRN threats expressed its gratitude towards American side for provided assistance and strong support” - Manana Baghashvili, head of Information-Analytical Department under State Security Service of Georgia stated.
