Head of State Security Service Administration Addressed the Audience at the International Conference “Women in Policing”

Ms. Melano Phanjavidze, Head of Administration of State Security Service of Georgia addressed the audience in the framework of an annual conference “Women in Police” held in the scope of cooperation with US Department of State`s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL). The conference was opened by Ian Kelly, US Ambassador to Georgia and Giorgi Gakharia, Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia.

The conference is traditionally held in Georgia for the 7th year already. The main topic of the conference is qualification enhancement among police officers, as well as demonstrating the role of women in law enforcement. This year the conference is attended by women from 13 countries.

 “I am very happy to have participated in the opening of this conference. This is the 3rd conference I have participated in. This is a great way for a Georgia to showcase itself as a platform for regional projects and it’s also a great for Georgia to showcase its inclusiveness its openness to the participation of women in promoting peace and security” – Ian Kelly, US Ambassador to Georgia stated.

“We put on this conference to make it very clear how important it is that women have full participation in law enforcement and full participation in their communities. A community will not succeed without including all members of society in the decision making process and in security” - Michael McMahon, Head of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs stated.

“I am glad that Georgia host the mentioned conference for the seventh time, in which representatives of the State Security Service of Georgia participate actively. Of course, role of woman and participation in all fields of public life is important. I would like to use this opportunity and express gratitude to our American partners and colleagues for organizing such important and interesting event| - Melano Phanjavidze, Head of Administration of the State Security Service of Georgia stated.
