Deputy Head of SSSG Opened the Sitting of Interagency Coordination Council on Combating CBRN Threats

4th Sitting of the Interagency Coordination Council on Combating CBRN Threats was held at the Hotel Radisson Blue Iveria.  Grigol Liluashvili, Deputy Head of the State Security Service of Georgia and the chairman of Coordination Council opened the sitting.

During the interagency sitting, council members presented the last year report (2017-2018) of 2015-2019 Action plan under the National Strategy of CBRN Threat Mitigation.

Existing situation in the field of CBRN and the interagency cooperation was discussed during the sitting. The invited guests and the international partners highlighted the progress achieved on the priorities and the goals of the CBRN National Action Plan, which is the result of effective and coordinated work of the council member agencies.

The members of the council also held discussions on the Donor Coordination Meeting and its outcomes, hosted on November, 2017, organized by the council. The members underlined importance of holding such donor coordination meetings in the country on periodic basis to improve the capacity of CBRN security in the country.

The sitting brought together Merab Malania,Deputy Minister of Ministry of Internal Affairs, Nodar Kereselidze, First Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Environment protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Shalva Khutsishvili, Deputy Head of The Emergency Management Service and representatives from the council member agencies (State Security Service of Georgia, The Emergency Management Service, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Finance of Georgia, Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia as well as the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Care).

The sitting was also attended by representatives of the Embassy of the United States to Georgia, Delegation of the EU and the representatives from regional secretariat of CBRN Risk Mitigation Excellence Center. The event was held under the auspices of the EU.

“It was a very interesting meeting. The events of the current year have been assessed and summarized. Talks were held on the events to be implemented within 2015-2019 action plan. Very interesting discussion has been held with the participation of our foreign partners as well as the council member Georgian representatives. Thus, very interesting initiatives have been voiced, including  a legislative direction, the implementation of which will make collective effort and fight against those threats more effective”- Grigol Liluashvili, Deputy Head of the State Security Service of Georgia stated.

“The State Security Service of Georgia as the chairman of the council has done an amazing job bringing all those agencies together, in coordinating efforts in following closely the implementation of the national action plan and it’s extremely important for a National Action Plan to be implemented effectively. A National Action Plan is not a document that sits on a shelf, but is a living document and in this regard the contribution of the State Security Service of Georgia is invaluable”- the UNICRI representative Francesco Miorin stated.
