The 1st Meeting of the Permanent Interagency Commission on Elaboration of the National Counterterrorism Strategy has been held

Under the chairmanship of the State Security Service of Georgia, the 1st meeting of the Permanent Interagency Commission on Elaboration and Monitoring of Implementation of the National Counterterrorism Strategy and Relevant Action Plan has been held.

The Permanent  Interagency Commission has been established under the Government Decree with the objective of determining Georgia’s unified policy in the field of counterterrorism, minimizing and preventing existing threats facing the country, as well as, promoting coordinated action of the state authorities. On the basis of the Government Decree, the Commission was tasked to elaborate national counterterrorism strategy and its action plan and to submit it to the Government of Georgia for the approval until the end of 2018. 

At the first meeting, the Commission members discussed the activities and powers of the Commission.  The Commission made decision on initiating the process of elaboration of the national counterterrorism strategy and its relevant action plan and in this regard, approved the composition of the working group under the coordination of the State Security Service of Georgia.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Permanent  Interagency Commission, Deputy Head of the State Security Service of Georgia Alexander Tabatadze and the members of the Commission: Deputy Head of the Administration of the Government of Georgia - Alexandre  Darakhvelidze, First Deputy Minister of Defense - Lela Chikovani, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs - Nino Javakhadze, First Deputy Minister of Justice - Mikheil Sarjveladze, First Deputy of Chief Prosecutor - Mamuka Vasadze, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs - Lasha Darsalia, First Deputy Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs - Zaza Bokhua, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport - Levan Kharatishvili, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development - Nino Enukidze, Deputy Minister of Finance - Giorgi Kakauridze, Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture - Giorgi Khanishvili, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure - Ilia Begiashvili, Deputy Head of LEPL - Financial Monitoring Service of Georgia - Giorgi Tevdorashvili, Chief Advisor to the Head of the Intelligence Service - Gocha Ratiani, Deputy Head of the Special State Protection Service - Giorgi Khaduri, Deputy Head of the Emergency Management Service  - Alexandre Onophrishvili.

The meeting was also attended by the U.S. Embassy and USAID representatives, who shared their recommendations to the Commission members on the issues related to the elaboration of national counterterrorism strategy and relevant action plan.
