The Representatives of the State Security Service of Georgia Got Experts, Representatives of Civil Society and Public Defender Familiarized with National Counterterrorism Strategy

The Head of Administration of the State Security Service of Georgia Nino Giorgobiani and the Head of Counter-Terrorism Center Irakli Chimakadze alongside the representatives of the State Security Service held a meeting with experts, representatives of civil society and Public Defender.

During the meeting the representatives of the State Security Service got them familiarized with the National Counterterrorism Strategy and responded to their questions.

The Strategy represents state’s vision in relation to fight against terrorism and extremism and highlights the importance of the consolidated actions of state authorities, as well as active participation of civil society and international partners.

The National Counterterrorism Strategy has been elaborated by Permanent Interagency Commission established under the Government Decree. The Commission comprises of every relevant state authority. In accordance with the legislation of Georgia, the State Security Service of Georgia has management and coordination functions within unified national counterterrorism system, thus, State Security Service of Georgia has been defined as a chair of the Commission, whilst administration of the Service has been assigned with the function of the secretariat.

In the course of elaboration of the Strategy, working group has studied experience and best practices of various countries, the US, the UK, Finland, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany and other countries among them,  besides, throughout the drafting of the Strategy, various international documents have been taken into account.
