Anti-corruption Agency under the State Security Service of Georgia detained 1 person on the fact of bribery and 4 persons on the fact of bribe-giving

The officers of Anti-corruption Agency under the State Security Service of Georgia, as a result of operative-searching and investigative activities, in cooperation with the employees of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, on the basis of court ruling detained Zakaria Kinkladze, the Head of the Division of Environment Patrol and Rapid Respond Unit of Kakheti Regional Division of the Environmental Supervision Department under the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, on the fact of bribery. Gocha P. and Giorgi A., the founders of LTD “Gremi”; Ramaz L., the founder and director of LTD “Kistauri”, and a citizen Vazha P. have been detained on the fact of illegal bribe-giving for the purpose of committing an unlawful act.

Investigation established, that Giorgi A., Gocha P. and Vazha P. conspired to receive illegal income by illegal cutting of trees and bushes for further realization of wood. In order to effectuate the illegal intent, they offered a high-ranking official of the Division of Environment Patrol and Rapid Respond Unit of Kakheti Regional Division USD 3000 per month as a bribe in return for protection. Gocha P. paid the promised amount of money to the mentioned individual.

Investigation also established, that Ramaz L. intended to receive illegal income by illegal cutting of trees and bushes and for further realization of wood in the village Orvila of Akhmeta Municipality. Ramaz L. offered the mentioned person GEL 10 000 in return for protection and handed the part of the amount of money - GEL 8000.

Moreover, Ramaz L. handed GEL 2500 as a bribe to Zakaria Kinkladze, the Head of the Division of Environment Patrol and Rapid Respond Unit of Kakheti Regional Division, in return for his assistance provided in relation to procedures. The sums of money in amount of USD 3000 and GEL 8000, paid as a bribe, have been seized as evidence.

Investigation is in progress on the fact of bribery and bribe-giving (Article 338, Part I and Article 339, Part II of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages from 6 to 9 and from 4 to 7 years of imprisonment). The investigation is carried out by Anti-corruption Agency under the State Security Service of Georgia.
