Remains of seven Georgian civilians killed in the course of 2008 Russia-Georgia war have been transferred to their families

As a result of active involvement of the State Security Service of Georgia and under the auspices of the International Committee of the Red Cross, after the relevant procedures at Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau, the remains of seven Georgian civilians killed in the course of 2008 Russia-Georgia war have been transferred to their families.

The remains were transferred from the occupied Tskhinvali region on 19th of March, 2019. The graves were opened and the remains were exhumed by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the vicinities of the cemetery of village Tamarasheni in the occupied Tskhinvali region in October, 2017. The bodies were examined at the international laboratory in the city of Zagreb, Croatia as a result of which the bodies were identified.

Tripartite coordination mechanism for persons missing in connection with the conflict of 90’s in Tskhinvali region and 2008 Russia-Georgia war is functioning under the auspices of the International Committee of the Red Cross in which State Security Service of Georgia represents the central government.
