Representatives of the State Security Service of Georgia Paid Official Visit to Europol

Head of Counterterrorism Center of the State Security Service Irakli Chimakadze, Deputy Head of Administration of the State Security Service of Georgia Nana Beridze, alongside the representatives of Anti-Corruption Agency, Counterintelligence Department and Information-Analytical Department of the State Security Service of Georgia have paid an official visit to Europol. The visit has been implemented in the frames of the EU project on Technical Assistance to Support the Fight against Organized Crime in Georgia. The visit aimed at facilitating enhancement of cooperation between Georgia and the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (EUROPOL). Within the framework of the visit, representatives of the State Security Service of Georgia have met with Deputy Executive Director of Europol, Oldřich Martinů. The meeting has also been held with the Head of Europol's European Counter-Terrorism Centre, Manuel Navarrete.

During the meetings, SSSG representatives have got familiarized with the directions of the activities and capabilities, as well as information exchange mechanisms of Europol and its structural units, including those of European Serious Organized Crime Center and European Counter-Terrorism Center. Parties have discussed the perspectives of future cooperation in the fields of fight against transnational organized crime, terrorism as well as in the field of financial crime.

On April 4, 2017, the Agreement on Operational and Strategic Cooperation between the European Police Office and Georgia was signed, following which Georgia became Europol’s partner country. In March, 2018, Liaison Agreement and a Memorandum of Understanding on a Secure Communication Line Protocol was signed with Europol. Within the scope of the agreement on Operational and Strategic Cooperation signed between Georgia and Europol, the State Security Service of Georgia has been defined as one of the competent agencies.
