National Security Council Meeting Held and Led by Prime Minister of Georgia

Giorgi Gakharia, Prime Minister of Georgia led the National Security Council Meeting today. Duties of a Secretary of the National Security Council have been entrusted to Levan Izoria, Head of Intelligence Service of Georgia.

As noted by the Head of Government of Georgia at the National Security Council Meeting today, coordinated work towards security is of critical importance.

"It is the most important function, especially in the view of coordination. Nowadays, security of this country is of critical importance. We will otherwise fail to develop economy, tourism, education and culture. Overall, discussion about the future of the country will otherwise be quite conditional. Thus, coordinated work towards security is of critical importance" added the Prime Minister of Georgia.

Challenges faced by the country in terms of security and development of events within the region were discussed at the meeting. Particular attention was paid to the issue of critical infrastructure and challenges faced by occupied territories of the country.

In the opinion of the Head of Government of Georgia, prime challenge of the national security is occupation and it is most critical and painful to the population living along the occupation line.

"Prime challenge of national security is occupation. It is what we and our citizens are thinking of every single day. This challenge is most critical for every citizen, especially those living along and on both sides of the occupation line" noted the Prime Minister of Georgia.

Head of Government of Georgia named the cyber-security to be one of the most significant challenges within the context.

"Cyber-security gets most important in our region and especially on the background of those challenges that have been experienced by our country a few days ago, when our public institutions and some representatives of the private sector were challenged" added the Prime Minister of Georgia.

Along with other significant topics, National Security Council Members discussed the need to update the concept papers of the national coverage in the realm of security. To that end, discussion was predominantly concentrated on the Concept Paper on National Security of Georgia and Assessment of Threats in Georgia. Head of Government of Georgia instructed Levan Izoria to develop a comprehensive Concept Paper of National Security, which will serve as a long-term Action Plan for public institutions working to ensure the international security of the country.

National Security Council Meeting led by the Prime Minister of Georgia was attended by its Permanent Members: Minister of Defense of Georgia, Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Head of State Security Service of Georgia, Head of Intelligence Service of Georgia and Chief of Defense Forces of Georgia.
