Head of State Security Service Held Meeting with Co-chair of Geneva International Discussions

Head of State Security Service of Georgia, Grigol Liluashvili held meeting with EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia, the Co-chair of International Geneva Discussions, Toivo Klaar.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the issue of unconditional release of citizens of Georgia who are illegally detained in the occupied regions.

The parties also discussed current situation in the occupied territories and along the occupation line, as well as challenges of security field. Attention has been focused on so-called illegal borderization process, decision of the Russian occupation forces on closure of so-called crossing points and its  accompanying negative results. During the meeting grave humanitarian situation in the occupied territories was discussed including in the context of COVID-19 pandemic.

Grigol Liluashvili highlighted urgent necessity of EU Monitoring Mission’s unlimited access to the occupied territories in accordance to its particular role and mandate.

The participants of the meeting, held talks on effective use of potential, as well as enhancing of existing formats of negotiation, in particular, those of Geneva International Discussions and Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) meetings.
