Head of the State Security Service Held Meeting with the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia, the Co-chair of International Geneva Discussions
Head of the State Security Service, Grigol Liluashvili held meeting with the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia, the Co-chair of International Geneva Discussions -Toivo Klaar.
The parties have discussed situation created due to the current military activities taking place in Ukraine. Talks have been held on the most complicated challenges developed as a result of the mentioned processes, as well as their possible impact both in the context of global, as well as regional security.
Current situation in the occupied territories and along the occupation line, as well as challenges in the security field have been discussed. Attention has been given to the matter of so-called Borderization process.
Particular attention has been attached to the matter of unconditional release of the citizens of Georgia - Mamuka Chikvaidze, Kakhaber Natadze, Valeri Kaniashvili, Zaza Megrelishvili, Tamaz Gogichashvili and Irakli Bebua - serving illegal imprisonment in the occupied regions.
Efforts made by Toivo Klaar and Co-chairs of Geneva International Discussions in general in terms of their active engagement in the processes taking place in occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions, have been highlighted.
The role of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM), as a neutral and objective mediator has been stressed. In the context of providing stability along the occupation line, special role of the mission, as we as urgent necessity of its unrestricted access to the occupied territories in compliance with its mandate, have been stressed.
Particular attention has been paid to necessity of efficient application and enhancement of existing formats of negotiation - Geneva International Discussions and the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) meetings, in particular.
