The employees of the Anti-Corruption Agency and the Counterintelligence Department of the State Security Service of Georgia, as a result of the operational-search and investigative actions conducted on 16 August 2022, arrested three persons on the fact of illegal purchase-storage of radioactive substances and attempted sale for the price of 1,2 million USDs.

The investigation established that the organized group of persons illegally stored radioactive substances emitting gamma rays, harmful for human health, at the addresses of their own residence in Tbilisi and Sagarejo municipality.

In accordance with the developed plan, the members of the criminal group were actively engaged in finding customers, maintained conspiracy by frequently changing the places of storage and eventually, attempted to sell the mentioned substances for the price of 1 million and 200,000 USDs, when they were arrested.

On 18 August 2022 the criminal charges were brought against the members of the criminal group under the paragraph 1 of the Article 230 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages the imprisonment for a period of 5 to 10 years as the type and measure of punishment.
