Counterterrorism Center detained One of the Emirs of the "Islamic State", Tsiskara Tokhosashvili  (EN)

On the basis of evidence obtained in the course of counterterrorism activities, Counterterrorism Center of the State Security Service of Georgia detained a citizen of Georgia, Tsiskara Tokhosashvili at Tbilisi International Airport.

Tokhosashvili left Georgia for the Middle East in 2015 and joined the ranks of the terrorist organization – “Islamic State” active in the region.

Tokhosashvili, aka “Emir Isa” was considered quite an influential figure among the members of “Islamic State”. He took active part both in terrorist as well as combat activities ongoing in the territory of Syria and Iraq. Throughout a particular period, he led one of the units of the terrorist organization in the conflict zone. He had close relations with Tarkhan Batirashvili - one of the influential leaders of the terrorist organization “Islamic State”.

It should be mentioned that Tsiskara Tokhosashvili’s younger brother – Tsezar Tokhosashvili, Emir of “Islamic State” - al-Bara Shishani was detained in 2019 on terrorism charges, as a result of a joint operation. He is serving his sentence in Georgia.

Investigation at the Counterterrorism Center in relation to Tsiskara Tokhosashvili is in progress under article 328 of the Criminal Code of Georgia on the fact of joining a foreign terrorist organization and supporting this organization in terrorist activities. The charge envisages imprisonment for a term of ten to seventeen years.
