The officers of the Counterintelligence Department of the State Security Service of Georgia, as a result of operative-search measures carried out jointly with the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia, detained an individual on the fact of attempted illegal sale of radioactive substance.

The detainee planned to sell radioactive substance in the town of Poti for USD 2 000 000. He was detained at that time.

According to the radiology examination, the substance presented for examination obtained as a result of search, contains radioactive substance Uranium and belongs to the category of the nuclear material.

Investigation is in progress under the article 230, paragraph one of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which refers to illegal handling of nuclear material and envisages imprisonment for a term from 5 to 10 years.
