As a result of large-scale special operation and on the basis of court ruling, Counterterrorism Center of the State Security Service, detained supporters of the terrorist organization - ISIS. The counterterrorism operation has been simultaneously carried out on four sites. 6 citizens of Georgia have been arrested.

On the basis of evidences obtained as a result of joint activities conducted by the Counterterrorism Center, Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, it has been established that the above-mentioned individuals had been connected to one of the influential leaders of the terrorist organization ISIS and they had been planning various terrorist activities in several countries under the latter’s leadership. 

As a result of investigative activities, symbolics of the terrorist organization, electronic data devices, ammunition, explosive materials and various important evidences have been seized.

Investigation into the case is carried out under the articles 328 and 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisage joining a foreign terrorist organization, supporting it in terrorist activities, illegal purchase/storage of a firearm, ammunition and explosive substance. The investigation is carried out by the Counterterrorism Center of the State Security Service.

Within the framework of this investigation, based on collected evidences, the Counterterrorism Center revealed certain terrorist activities in the territory of various countries and in light of increased threat, information was timely shared with partner countries. It should be mentioned, that within the framework of the same case, criminal prosecution has been launched against a citizen of foreign country who has been placed in the Temporary Accommodation Center of the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs by order of the court.
