Representatives of State Security Service of Georgia, Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia Held Field Drill Against Illicit Traffic of Radioactive Materials

In the scope of World Congress on CBRN Science and Consequence Management, representatives of relevant units under State Security Service of Georgia, Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia relevant units held field drill against illicit traffic of radioactive materials which was attended by foreign scientists paying visit to Georgia, representatives of international organizations as well as US Defence Department and US Embassy representatives. The guests were allowed opportunity to get introduced with coordinated operation among relevant Agencies of Georgia in an effort against illicit traffic of radioactive materials.

Upon completion of the drill, Gary Blore, Director of J3/7 US Defense Threat Reduction Agency stated: “It was very impressive and very fast which I think is very important for an operation like this to be able to get on quickly and catch the culprits and detain them. So the Emergency Service personnel can do the rest of the work to see if there is a hazardous substance there. Georgia is a leader, in the fight that all countries need to be aware for CBRN materials and the US which I represent is a proud partner that help Georgia with that effort. We continue to be impressed and look forward to being a partner in the future”.

Irakli Beraia, Head of Information-Analytical Department under State Security Service of Georgia stated: “World Congress on CBRN Science and Consequence Management is under way, which is hosted by State Security Service of Georgia. In the scope of the Congress field drill against illicit traffic of radioactive materials was conducted. Representatives from relevant units of State Security Service of Georgia, Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia participated in the drill. During today’s event our guests, our foreign partners were given opportunity to see how relevant Agencies combat illicit traffic of hazardous materials in a coordinated way”.

World Congress on CBRN Science and Consequence Management is hosted by State Security Service of Georgia, which is being conducted from 30th May to 2nd June, 2016 in the Radisson Hotel. The Congress brought together high rank officials from 30 countries and international organizations, CBRN experts and scientists. Biological and radiological security, non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and the materials, biological security and protection, aspects of chemical security, etc. are being discussed during the Congress sessions.
