The officers of Anti-corruption Agency of State Security Service of Georgia, as a result of operative-searching and investigative activities, detained four individuals on the fact of attempted fraud in large quantities committed by a group.

Following a 11-months pause, 96th IPRM meeting has taken place in village Ergneti, Gori municipality. Representatives of the State Security Service have strongly brought about the issue of illegal detention of Georgian citizens: Zaza Gakheladze, Khvicha Mgebrishvili and Genadi Bestaev and have categorically demanded their unconditional release within the shortest possible period.

A two-day workshop has been held on prevention of corruption in public sector jointly organized by State Security Service of Georgia and Council of Europe Office in Georgia. The event has been held within the framework of CoE/EU Partnership for Good Governance (PGG II) Project on “Enhancing the systems of prevention and combating corruption, money laundering and terrorist financing in Georgia”.

On July 2, 2020, on the basis of judge’s ruling, investigation demanded from TV “Mtavari Arkhi” uncut footage of the TV story - “Purchased COVID 19” - broadcasted in a program “Shabatis Mtavari”, within the period of 21:03-21:13 on June 20, 2020, as well as this of the TV story broadcasted on June 25, 2020 within the period of 21:03 – 21:13. Regardless of the fact that Director General of the TV “Mtavari Arkhi” Nika Gvaramia publicly stated that he was ready to give publicity to uncut material connected to the mentioned TV programs, the TV outlet submitted to the investigation only material completed and translated into Georgian language which had been broadcasted previously. Phonoscopic examination into the completed video material submitted by TV “Mtavari Arkhi” has been scheduled in order to establish objective truth on the fact.

Participants discussed current situation in the occupied territories and along the occupation line, as well as touched on the challenges in security field, including illegal so-called borderization process detected along the occupation line, decision of the Russian occupation forces on closure of so-called crossing-points and its accompanying negative outcomes. During the meeting talks were also held on grave humanitarian situation created in occupied territories due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Investigation into the mentioned case was launched on March 16, 2020, on the basis of operational information received by the Service, according to which, certain individuals and groups of individuals through various means of mass communication (including electronic ones) were actively trying to disinform public through disseminating of fake news on the matters of the scope of spread of a Novel Coronavirus and effective fight against the virus, in order to affect population’s mental condition, cause distrust, panic and chaos, that would hamper regular functioning of state authorities and organizations and hinder effective fight against pandemic.
